What EV Rebates Are Offered in British Columbia?
The province of British Columbia has announced the launch of an EV rebate program that will provide a $3,000 rebate for the purchase or lease of any new EV. This can be a battery EV, plug-in hybrid EV (longer-range), or Hydrogen fuel cell EV. For plug-in hybrid EVs (shorter-range), a rebate of $1500 is offered. The program is designed to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change while making ZEVs (Zero Emission Vehicles) affordable.
The rebate is open to all British Columbians eligible for a license plate under the Motor Vehicle Act (MVA). Eligible applicants include individuals who have purchased or leased a brand-new electric vehicle since January 1, 2021. Applications must be submitted no later than March 31, 2025.
Applicants will also need to prove they are eligible for an MVA license plate and have paid all taxes due in full before submitting their application. They should also have registered their EV by submitting proof of insurance and registering it online before submitting their application.
MRP Cap For EV Rebates
The MRP cap for EV rebates in British Columbia is $55,000. Any vehicles with a listed price above this amount will not be eligible for a rebate.
