Difference Between Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L

Difference Between Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L

Jeep is well known for its range of SUVs, and the Cherokee is one of the most notable among its models. However, more than one version of the Grand Cherokee is available, the base version and the L. In this article, we explore how these two vehicles differ in size, technology, and performance.

What’s the Most Notable Difference?

The most notable difference upon a glance is the size, with the Jeep Grand Cherokee having an extra row of seating, extending its length. While highly visual, the change allows for more passengers, going from five to seven seats available within the SUV.

The Exterior

The most notable difference, the exterior of the Grand Cherokee L is longer, with its wheelbases being over three inches farther away from each other than those of the regular model. While not that large of an extra length, the exterior’s appearance is almost entirely different when compared to the shorter option.

All the changes end up accumulating in two separate shapes in the design of either model. The L is sleeker and slightly more elegant, while the regular SUV comes off as boxy and rugged.

The Interior

The interior’s most notable change is the addition of an extra row featuring seating for two. The Grand Cherokee sits five, while its larger counterpart sits a total of seven. The rear rows can be folded down for extra cargo space, making the L model more spacious and efficient if you’re carrying lots of cargo.

The second row for the regular model features a 60/40 folding seat, which is different from the L. A 50/50 split-folding seat occupies the rear of the larger Cherokee, leaving both models with different ways of storing and packing cargo and passengers. The second row for the L is two bucket seats, with a manual easy-entry slide feature for the rear row.

Performance and Engine Specs

Both models of this Jeep SUV offer outstanding power and performance. However, the Cherokee only offers three engine choices. Both models have 3.6-litre V6, a 5.7-litre V8, and a 6.4-litre V8 engine as options, while the L has an additional option. The 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 engine offers better performance and fuel efficiency combined with other available choices.

Technology and Connectivity

While both models feature a wide range of technology, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L offers a few additional pieces. Options for the L model include an available 10.1-inch touchscreen display and an available 360-degree camera system. Both features are add-ons but provide more comfort and convenience than those available on the regular Cherokee.
